We spent a very relaxing 4 days away at the Rainbow Beach Caravan Park, Bonny Hills last weekend. Bonny Hills is on the mid-north coast of NSW, just south of Port Macquarie and just north of Lauriton.
The park is nestled amongst beautiful paperbark trees, right on Rainbow Beach. Facilities include;
Spa (which wasn't working)
Playground (they were expecting a new one that hadn't shown up, so hence the putt-putt was free)
Camp Kitchen (with a stovetop that didn't work)
The kids had a ball riding their bikes, jumping the pillow and playing putt-putt. Probably the pick of the sites would be the ones towards the back of the park, looking out over a vacant lot. We were closer to the beach access and facilities. The park has a good number of powered sites (mixed grassed and slab). Despite being school holidays, the Park had relatively few people.
The walk to the beach is around 30 metres from the park fenceline, then a walk across a shallow lagoon to the surf. The beach is reasonably exposed surf beach with a lagoon. The kids had a great time in the surf catching the waves on their boogie boards.
This is from the Caravan Park review site (http://home.vicnet.net.au/~badger04/). Although it's out of date, it's pretty much right on the money with most of the description.
Being the off season we fairly much had a pick of sites and easy access to all facilities. Adequate playground for our kids, however some maintenance to the timber is needed. Undercover BBQ area is good, however the charge of $1 for 30 minutes seemed a bit 'penny pinching' when council provides free BBQs in their parks usually. Amenity blocks were clean and tidy, provision of a full size bath was great for our two young kids. Staff were very friendly, $20 for 2 adults and two kids under 4 for a powered site was reasonable, however I believe the cost is a lot dearer in peak times. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites. Good laundry, good rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq ($1 for 30 min), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for families, well maintained park
All up, a smallish and very pretty park. Would definately return, it's just a longish way from Sydney
