My family is planning to go fishing Barra near Darwin can you recommend any places.

We are interested in the Stuart Point Wilderness Lodge have you been there or heard any recommendations or maybe you know of somewhere simliar. That has accommodation, pool, meals as we will be flying to Darwin won't be able to take much with us.

Hi, I did a 4WD/camping trip in this July year. Wasn't really the right time of year for fishing, but a had a bit of a flick, I didn't get anything but my boyfriend caught a 87cm barra at the Roper river near Mataranka (silver lure). Did a few nights bush camping at 4 mile hole, Kakadu and caught a little barra, but there were big (90cm+) frames on the bank - think we really needed a boat. Beautiful spot though, and saw lots of crocs etc. Be wary though, fishing regulations throughout Kakadu.

Apparently Cahill's crossing (near Jabiru) is the best barra fishing in Kakadu, although had no luck there myself - it was really, really low tide and I don't think that helped. Ubirr rock near there is worth checking out as well.

The Cooinda lodge has accommodation and bistro, pool etc. It's also close to Maguk/Barramundi gorge, which is nice for a swim (no fishing though). Jabiru has the same thing, I think there's another resort on the South Alligator, perhaps just look up Aurora resorts on the web?

Hope that helps!

I lived in Darwin for 7 years and spent quite a bit of time fishing, never ever caught a Barra.
I think the crocs eat all the good ones.
Suggest a good fishmonger and buy one!!

Brings back some great memories hearing those place names!
I was in NT in July '97 with a mate just travelling to where ever the road took us... never caught a Barra but I was sick of them by the time we got back to Darwin!
Barra Burgers, Barra Snags, Barracakes, BarraBloodyEverywhere!!!

The best holiday ever and will take the missus when the kids are grown up.

Roper river.... caught nothing.
Went on a charter out from Darwin and caught plenty of fish, my best was a Queenfish about 90 odd cm!

Great place! God's own!
