Hellooo I am so excited

Postby lurlthegirl » Thu Dec 03, 2009 2:16 am

:hello: We just went and bought a small poptop caravan!!!!! I am so excited. I have been googling and looking for campsites and places to go on little trips all night. We have two small dogs that we just do not enjoy being away from so decided that we would buy a van and take them with us rather than staying home!! We just came home from a months holiday in Tasmania and missed the dogs sooo much. We decided that holidays really would be far nicer with them. Not sure what you do if you want to go into or look at places where they cannot go but will worry about that when it happens. Just hope they behave now.

Hello lurlthegirl and WELCOME to the forum. I am sure you will have heaps of adventures in your newly acquired poptop van. There is lots of info contained on this site so when you have a moment or five go back through some of the old threads, you'll find lots of info in them.

It would also be nice to have some idea of your location.....you can pop the info into your profile and then we will have a general idea of who maybe near to you.

Also very pleased to see that you want to take canine babies with you & you will find a few like minded people on this forum. I for one never leave home without my 2 girls.

Thanks for the reply. We are in Brisbane so will be mainly looking to camp in SE Qld and northern NSW for short trips. But the rest of Australia beckons!

You don't mention if you are looking to stay in Caravan Parks
or if you will be "Free Camping" ?

The Website for the Book Holidaying With Dogs

A Must have for "Free Camping" Camps Australia Wide
Has symbols for Dogs Allowed / No Dogs

An Ever growing online database of Free & Low cost camps
entered by people who have been to them.

And of course, if in doubt ring the park ahead of time to save hassles.

Hi Brad :) We will be doing a bit of both I imagine. As soon as we have the van the way we want it I think a bit of free camping will be the order of the day.

I was a country girl in my youth and I often have a yen to be as far as possible from city lights, noises etc and experience the solitude of the countryside. See the stars without the citylights dimming them. Any ideas of a good spot to do that? With dogs of course.

Sounds fabulous and my way of thinking also. You might want to consider purchasing the Camps Aust Wide 5 publication which lists numerous free and lost cost camps aust wide. Buy it from RACQ if you are a member and get it at a discounted price.

There is a thread here too which is dedicated to camping with our canine kids........have a look at it. viewforum.php?f=101

One of my very favourite places is Island Reach at Imbil http://www.ircamping.com.au/ and Kilkivan Bush Camping http://www.kilkivancampingcaravans.info

Both are pet friendly lurlthegirl.
