HELP PLEASE (lighting)

Postby Jeremy V » Wed Dec 16, 2009 4:09 pm

G'day All,

I'm chasing some advice on lighting.
Im looking for something i can power from a small battery and use a solar panel during the day to recharge.
The area i want to illuminate would only be 3mx2m.
Im unsure if a fluro or LED strip is the way to go? (or another solution)
As im new to camping im becoming lost quickly......

I live in Brisbane, and any shops or warehouse that sell these items would be good also??????
Any advice would be great :)
Thankyou... Merry Christams also.......

Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy and WELCOME to the forum.

IMO LED lighting is definitely the way to go for cooking and inside the camper/tent and it has very little current draw and would be fine in an area the size you mention. For a more generalised light the fluoro is better. Have a look back through some of the old threads and you will find quite a lot of info on this subject.

Jaycar is a pretty good place to look at for LED lighting and the camping shops (Down Under or similar) for fluoro lights with either a Versa Light or Col Lite being the better ones and again with little current draw. These fluoros draw about .6.

The best person I know for all things 12 volt and solar is Jamie from Dynamic Solar Solutions....one of the good guys who is only too willing to assist with advice & products. http://www.dynamicsolarsolutions.com.au/

I use LED with my camper. I use the flexible strips that I bought of ebay, very cheap for what they are.

Only draw back I have found is led isnt very good in low light but its only half an hour each day. I also put solar garden lights around my ropes.
