Flyscreen repair?

Postby Lin » Thu Nov 05, 2009 11:14 am

I have a rip in my tent door's flyscreen. A thread came lose and got stuck between the zipper!

I temporarily fixed it with duct tape, but would like to find a more permanent way to repair it.

Any tips?

I'd be taking it to a canvas repair place, motor trimmer or similar.

What kind of flyscreen is it? Similar to household or more of a close knit mesh? You can by flyscreen repair kits from kmart and the like, they simply sew into your existing flyscreen. If its a more expensive tent then you may want to get it professionally repaired.

It's the finer mesh type stuff. But in the meantime I've bought a new tent! Not because of the rip though... I still intend to use the tent for weekends occasionally as it's faster to set up than my new one (so far).

The duct tape held up really well too. It's one item that I never go camping without!

I have seen self adhesive flyscreen repair kits in some stores - no need to sew it on.
It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt - then it's bloody hilarious!

Have never tried it......if it's a nylon /fibre-glass contruction the suggestion was to heat a patch of simmilar product on , using an old clothes iron .Would try on some scrap mesh first. Might work but I think you would have to be carefull
Like I said.never tried it.........good luck maybe... :-bang

if its just a straight tear in it you should be able to just sew it together?
