Brissie & Sydney stopover - Oxley Hwy or Waterfall Way?

Brissie & Sydney stopover - Oxley Hwy or Waterfall Way?

Postby Dettie » Mon Feb 15, 2010 11:25 pm

I'm looking for a shady and quiet stopover spot between Brissie & Sydney. About 5 years ago, I camped at Valla Beach for a week and drove home to Sydney via a few nights stay at my sisters place near Dubbo. The first 2 hour drive off Pacific Hwy was seriously spectacular and swore I'd remember what the route was so I could do it again and camp along the way. When I look back at maps, for the life of me, I can't recall whether I took the Oxley Hwy or Waterfall Way. I'm pretty sure it was Oxley.

I'm looking for a spot inland from the Hwy to stay overnight next week after picking up the new CT. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!

Hey Dettie,

I know that this isn't half way but what about the Warrumbungles for a few nights.

Its on my list and we are going to head there in the Sept Hols.
Would be awesome as your first camp with your new toy,i mean camper trailer.

New toy it is! ;)

I'm taking Chris (11) out of school for a week or maybe 2 before the September/October school hols so we can do a big 3/4 week trip around NSW coast and SEQ and back via Northern outback NSW. I'm going to try and arrange it so my husband can come for the first 2 weeks and then fly back to Syd from Brissie before Chris and I venture inland.

Warrumbungles is on my To Do list so I think I'll save it for that later trip, so I can take my time. I think probably my best option for this quick pickup trip now is to come back from Brissie and stay 1 night at a Big4 near Nambucca Heads. I am clueless as to how to reverse park a trailer so if I get stuck, hopefully there will be some friendly neighbours at the Big4 who might give me some pointers after sitting around their campsite laughing at me. ;)

Cheers

Ask for a Drive Thru site Dettie...most CP's have at least some these days.

Hi Dettie

Try this site it has quite a lot of stopovers listed for every state

http://ozcamps.net/index.php?option=com ... &Itemid=29

as for the highways if you went through bellingen to dorrigo from valla that is the waterfall way

if it was from port macquarie to wauchope onto dorrigo then that is the oxley highway

hope that helps

Thanks Gypsy, I didn't know about the drive through sites. I'll have to get used to reverse parking so will give it a go and if all else fails, I'll just drive through. Too easy!

Thanks Tezza, I'll check this link out now.
