Portable magnetic antenna

Postby Dettie » Tue Mar 09, 2010 11:41 pm

I've been doing my reading and research into this and even called Telstra for advice (crazy, I know!). I'm looking at getting a magnetic base 5 or 9db portable antenna for a new T106 (Rural approved) to use as a modem for internet when the need arises (own business). I'd appreciate any thoughts on whether this is worthwhile.

I'll go to Dick Smith and Telstra shop and see what they think too.

Gypsy, I read on another thread that you use a 9db antenna but connected through your car, I think.

Cheers

Yes I do Dettie...it is a hands free unit with phone cradle etc. I have a NextG phone and am still using my old CDMA 'broomstik' aerial mounted on the bullbar of my vehicle.

I would try Dick Smith and any communications place you might have down there, not Telstra as I have little faith in their product knowledge....I use Olbis here for all my stuff. Here is their link just to give you an idea of the type of outlet they are. http://www.olbis.com.au/ This is the sort of outlet I would be looking for Dettie for advice

I think you also have Strathfield Car Sound and not sure if you also have Jaycar...if so they are 2 places I would also look at.

It's quite a few years since I have been to Sydney so I am a little lost as to what you have there now.

Thanks kindly for the guidance Gyspy! I didn't think of Strathfield Car Radio, but they have an outlet local to me so will drop in.

Thanks guys. I spoke with both of your suggestions and have ordered a Magnetic Base 5db and patch cable.

Cheers!
