You may have said or done something and it keeps coming back at you.....people keep reminding you of it. It becomes the monkey on your back. It is an old saying from the past and om my part it was a comment in jest when I saw the monkey.
I think it has a new 'spin' on it now to do with drugs....but that is not how I know it or use the saying.
