Need camping sites withing 2 hours of Sydney

Postby ozvader » Sat Jun 12, 2010 3:04 pm

:hello: I am looking for camping ground that are no more than about 2 hours from Sydney/Parramatta. We are three families that like to take the kids out for the weekend but don't like van parks that much as there are no camp fires and its a little too easy. All we need are toilets and a shower. Pet friendly would be nice. We have been to Glenwoth Valley and would recomend it to anyone starting out but have found it hard to find other sites. Most camping searches on the web camo back with van parks. All ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Ozvader, Upper Colo Reserve is good. It is a large area near the Colo river. Toilets, cold showers, and a river to keep you cool. It is a council-run park (Hawkesbury) and you need to book. The web site has all the details:

Try Munmorah State Recreation area at Lake Munmorah or Bouddi National Park camping area at Kilcare. Should be able to find them both on the National Parks website.

Newnes is on our to do list but only has drop toilets, no showers.

Lake Lyall at Lithgow is also on our to do list in the warmer months, went for a drive there last month for a look see and it was quite good, amenities blocks were pretty good with hot showers(20c I think for 3 mins), fireplaces, powered/unpowered sites, kiosk. The water level is getting pretty low but the view from the top camping areas are just beautiful. Also heaps of bushland for the kids to wander around in and explore.

Here is a thread on the Blue Mountains which has the above places mentioned plus a couple of others, also has photos. http://forum.camping.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=5032&start=0&hilit=lake+lyell

You could also try the South Coast as I am sure there is some really nice spots down there. Just do a search of this forum and you will get plenty of info.

Good luck :cheers

Have a look on the national parks and state parks websites to find a few places to stay.
