Just how crazy is it driving from Coomber Perdy to Perth?

Postby Gerry Simpson » Wed Dec 13, 2006 3:29 am

Hi I'm coming down from Ayers Roack Uluru and eventually stoping in Melbourne, but I would love to see Perth & Freemantle, so I was thinking of a detour? I have a KEA 2WD Camper on hire, so how long and which route? any recommendations? Advice etc. Thanks

You can go that way but it would be damned HOT this time of year (although you haven't stated what time of year you are going).

A 2wd will make the trip from Ayres Rock to Wiluna but the road is very corrugated and I'm not sure how KEA would like you driving their camper over that stretch.

Having said that, the alternate route (Coober Pedy/Ceduna/ Norseman/ Kal ... or Esperance ... thence Perth) can be a great trip if you have the time.

Count on a minimum of a week travelling from the Rock to Perth and that's with little sight seeing. Two weeks would be better.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Thanks Scol, that's what I needed to know. I'm planning to be there early March. I'm starting & finishing in Melbourne, and going anti clockwise.

So If I get to Uluru by end of Feb I'll have time for a Freemantle detour. If not then I'll ease back and through Adalaide and catch it next time.
