We brought most of our Camping gear with us from New Zealand and had no problems....as Titch mentioned, as long as its clean...they were more worried about our boots and wether we had been in a rural area in the last 30 days .....(We even bought our Cat & Dog)....just make sure there is no dirty items.
Please ''DON'T'' try and bring food with you.

Enjoy your trip

Be worth a quick trip to www.aqis.gov.au and see what the quarantine requirements are. If by camping gear you mean firearms a trip to the police and customs website would also be worthwhile.
