Harry's Hut - Anyone been?

Postby Hippie » Sun Aug 01, 2010 5:20 pm

Can anyone give me a review on Harry's Hut ie. accessibility and state of camping grounds? Or, does anyone know a National Parks camp ground within 2 hours of Brisbane that has somewhere to kayak? We don't need amenities, just a nice bit of creek or river to paddle in. Appreciate any advice.

Hi Hippie,,,I'm not familiar with that one,,,so any info you do have would be great...

We take the Father-in-Law out to ''Imbil'' to have a canoe..he enjoys it there plus you can canoe out at Kenilworth....(bit cold at this time of the year for this ole fella though...lol), Then....If you want to paddle in harbours, theres always around the bribie area...or up the Sandgate river......I know I passed heaps of canoes going up the river in Petrie (by Strathpine).....That river goes a long way.
These few are well with-in the 2 hours from Brisbane

Cheers

Thanks Rosco, Do you know if there are camping grounds at Imbil or Kennilworth associated with the canoeing that you do? Cheers, Hippie

Coochin Creek is a good spot for water activities.
Good camping ground with composting toilets.
Nice grassy sites...have to book online.

Can become a little rowdy on the weekends.

We are going to head out to Imbil. First time in our new campertrailer. Might be a bit windy but I don't care. It has been way too long between camps. We sold our old campertrailer in April and have been waiting for the new one to arrive.

Hippie....As a rule,,,Imbil is normally pretty sheltered from the wind.....
If you can, Ask if you can park on the 'sorta' landing...up from the waters edge about 100mtrs and only a short distance from the shower / toitet block....I'd be very suprised if they are over booked at this time of the year....Oh,,,and by the way....You are allowed fires there.......We built ours right out-side our tent....bit cold at night at this time of the year....so it was most welcome....You can take your own wood...or buy it from them all split ready to burn.

Enjoy your trip..... ::)

Thanks Gyspie Lady and Rosco, we appreciate the heads up on where to park etc. Your camp fire photo looks great. We usually take wood for a fire. It doesn't feel like camping if we can't have a fire and toast some marshmellows. That reminds me, I forgot to buy them this afternoon, better do it tomorrow.
