Caerful

Since getting my Netbook, I spend more time sitting in bed with it rather than making the strenuous 4 meter stroll to the desktop in the longe room

BTW Ubuntu (GNU Linux) is far better than Any Windoze version :#

Is that something you need to buy instead of windows?
Do you need a new pute for it?

I just find the start menu more difficult to use than the XP one. You have to click on things to find programs! Shock horror. But it's not that bad. And in it's defence, it does remember your most used applications and keeps them at the top of the start menu. So I now never have to go into 3 folders anymore to get to the calculator for example.

I remember I needed to burn some back-up disks before I started using it and I could not, absolutely not, find out how to view the content of the DVD. I had to wait for a friend to come and show me. Though now I do have a Windows Explorer icon on my taskbar, I noticed. No idea how that got there, because it wasn't there from the start.

How are you going to power it when travelling? Have you got one of those laptop car power supplies yet? You can get them from Jaycar for about $50.

That's the one thing i don't like about the big laptops, they only have about 2 hours of battery life. That's why i ended up getting the little notebook for travelling, i can use it for about 5 hours easily. But also have the charger/supply in the car aswell.

Have you got a USB intermanet stick? Good for getting your forum fix when travelling.

Ubuntu (as well as many other Linux Distributions) is Free
You don't need a new computer and it runs well on fairly old computers.
You can Replace Windows ( unless you need specific windows only software)
Or you can install it side by side with Windows and choose either one or the other
at start up.
Best thing about it is it doesn't have Virus / Malware problems (No Linux Virus in the wild)

I got a new laptop a few months back. I love it. It has win7 64bit on it. I found it really easy to use however I do find a couple of compatibilty issues with some programs but nothing that couldn't be fixed. Just make sure that your printer is compatible. If it is having trouble you'll have to go online to look for the updated driver to load onto your computer. I believe that 32bit is ok, it's just 64 bit that has the problems. Still so new that things haven't caught up yet.
If you do have any issues, send out a hoy here or go to whirlpool. There is heaps of info on those forums and you're bound to find help there.
Personally I stayed with Outlook for email as winmail didn't have a preview pane.
Anyway, hope you have fun with your new toy!

I don't like the preview pane feature sienna but I do prefer Outlook and bought MS Office as well so that I can keep Outlook.

Have yet to load it to the laptop....going to get my son to do that for me and I will watch and learn.

Once you start using it you'll probably wonder how you ever used your old one for so long.

I am sure you are right Steve...I sometimes wonder how I put up with it and cuss it on a regular basis.
