NEED HELP aka what's it worth ?

Postby Chippy76 » Sat Sep 18, 2010 1:31 pm

Hey all!

Okay I need some help from the very clever people on this forum. I am looking at buying a second hand CT but need some advice on what it is worth, as neither I or the guy selling it have any idea.

It is a 15 yo cub campers Kamparoo (off road version) its a rear fold hard floor CT with no kitchen or anything like that. Just a fold out tent and thats it. The zippers on the door need to be redone, as they are buggered, and some of the velcro on the windows also needs replacing. The whole thing needs a general tidy up ie new tail lights, a bloody good wash, and probably a waterproofing.

So what is it worth ? I know it is a hard one, thats why I'm posting it up on here .... I'll try and find a photo (if I can remeber how to post them up)

A pic would be good chippy and does it have an annex, that's a complete annex not just the awning?? What are the tyres like, how much rego does it have?? Does it have a mattress, what sort??

No kitchen would mean no water tank and most probly no 12 volt.....

Personally I'd say it is not worth very much if it requires a fair bit of work and is a very basic unit.

Sorry Gypsy , here are the pics. No it has no Annex, just a small awning. The tyres are probably at 50% , they will get replaced anyway. No rego. It has a foam matteress, but again, I may replace that in time( finances allowing)

I have a water tank at home to fit to it, and I will probably outfit it with 12v as well.

I hope that helps!

I was only asking about those chippy to guage what it might be worth....

Ok ......ball park figure and I am making a point of saying 'without seeing it' maybe $500 - $1000 IMO.....although I don't know if I'd pay $1000 for it.

I have a friend who bought a soft floor a while ago in very good condition, registered with full annex etc for $3000 and Rosco bought a soft floor just recently in mint condition for a very good price too.

Price one that needs no work, then work out how much this will cost to bring it up to scratch.
Allow for new bearings a Dampeners. if it has them.
If the canvas is in good nick, price the Zipping.
How much is it worth to you is the correct price.Hard isn't it.

Hey Titch,
Thanks for that.
I think I will be able to fix the busted zippers, and the canvas looks ok. I cant seem to find a Kamparoo of this age advertised for sale. I guess any work I will do to it will be long term.
The hard part is that I dont want to feel like I am ripping the bloke off, and vice versa.

The hunt continues .......

If the suspension is good you are buying the suspension, and Chassis, the rest is past its used by date.
In my opinion.
Offer him $500 and explain why.
I reckon that is a fair price.

Titch,
Thanks for you input :D I understand your point of view and will take it into consideration . I think on average it is in pretty good nick (given the age) he is an old bloke and has looked after it pretty well. Having said that it has been around Australia once and has been sitting for 2 years unused. The suspension is a lot heftier than anything I have seen on any other CT. And being pretty handy I dont think it would take much work to bring it up to scratch. In any case it is a good base for a solid, reliable of roader ...
