The place looks like fun.
3hrs is a bit of a hike but doable. You'd want to stay at least 2 nights to not rush things.

Yes it is a fair way,i remember it more like four hours drive, there is other great camping at Tenterfield but not doggie friendly. I camped in the town CP about 4 years ago and just did drives and walks around Bald Rock Girraween, visited the local shops, nice friendly little town.i`d walk the dogs around the local streets early in the morning and people would call out hello and come and chat. One of the nurses at work have a property there and i keep threatening her i`m coming to set up camp she always says anytime so i might take her up on that.

Lin: There was water in the creek a couple of weeks back. It was the weekend that followed that fairly rough weather a couple of weeks back, and with the recent rain there may be some more flow through.

The Sunday we were walking the dog back here in Yass and I found a 5 cent piece on the road... probably worth more than the gold I found :***
Cheers
