Newbie - needs advice on tent

Postby robynb » Sat Jan 20, 2007 3:52 pm

I am a single mum going camping for the 1st time with 2 young boys. Can anyone recommend a good tent thats easy to erect - looking for something reasonably large (eg 3m x 3m).

I gues it depends how much money you have to spend. Give us that detail and it will make it easier.

The age of your sons would have a bearing on the style of tent too ... ie. a square 3mx3m tent has a pole rght in the middle so is only suitable for two ppl.

Cheers ...

I was thinking up to $500 but if I can get a tent that puts itself up would pay double that LOL

You can buy a good first time tent for $100-$200. But I'd stick to the cheaper ones for the first one though. Head to your local camp shop. They'll give great advice.

We have an Oztrail Tourer 10plus. It is huge. We bought for about $400 delivered, (ebay). It is very simple to put up, one pole in the middle, and a ridge pole at the back. Can fit at least 2 double matresses, plus a few singles. Only downside is it is a bit bulky, but if you take a trailer, boat or roof rack, should be no problem. Being canvas it is very comfy to sleep in. I don't have any photos but an internet search should find some pics. Good luck  Dimensions are 400cm x 305cm x 210cm High . Pics are here - . If your boys are young the smaller versions on this page eg. Tourer 9, might be suited.

If you have an Anaconda store handy, they've got great cheap tents.

We have 2 spinifex ones and an Oztrail.

Thanks everyone. I went to Anaconda today and they've almost sold me on their Spinifex ones. I looked at the Derwin and another just a bit bigger - 6 metres x 2.8 metres.

I'm thinking that I'll need the extra room as I have a 5 and a 2 yr old so will need to spend a bit of time in the tent.
