Free Camp Sites NSW?

Free Camp Sites NSW?

Postby Vicki S » Thu Dec 09, 2010 9:48 am

Hi There

Would anyone be able to recommend free/cheap camping spots around the Sydney and a few hours whichever way.

It'd be two adults and two kids under 5. The hubby wants to do some fishing but would want to take the little feller with him so nothing too steep to rivers. Beaches ok!

Toilets and Showers.

Oh, and something that would be available for about a week over Christmas. lol

Thanks so much for your help!

Two and a bit weeks out from xmas and that is one tall order Vicki.

Hopefully one of the members from down that way can come up with something for you. You can have a look at this link and maybe find something......Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum Vicki :hello:

Try this website for some free camps

http://ozcamps.net/

Also if you prefer a caravan park, as most free camps wouldnt have showers just drop toilets. You could try Gaz's website.

Also Camps 5 is a great book.

About that week at Xmas good luck with that as anything near the beach would probably be long gone by now especially if it has amenities.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi! Thank you for the welcome. I'll post in the members intro bit in a minute. I was just kind of desperate lol.

Realising it's been left too late (!), we had a last minute change of heart about where we were spending Christmas and decided camping. I know it's a huge one. Thank you for those links! I'll check them out. :)

I reckon the further out from town you go the better chance of finding some vacancies. If you're going to sty for a week, a 4 or 5 hour drive would be worth it. For a two hour drive you may aswell come home at the end of the day  .... (but i don't have 3 kids)

You could try Bendeela near Kangaroo Valley. Free campsite but it is on a first in best site basis. They have toilets and showers and is on the river. It would be about a 2.5 hour drive depending where in Sydney you are. Rangers come around during the day checking that all is ok. Whe we went last year there was a van came round everyday selling ice, bread, icecreams and stuff. No campfires or dogs allowed but plenty of space for the kids to run.

Well we ended up going to Mystery Bay Campground for 6 nights. $25 a night for 2 adults, kids under 5 free. They had clean drop loos and cold outdoor showers (so make sure if you go, you can handle washing outside in an open cold shower or take a tub and wash yourself in that or a portashower!). Firewood is for sale but it's not much firewood for $8 a lot. And it's just offcuts from saw mills I think. You can buy firewood for 6 bucks a bag down the road that burns a bit better and gas and block ice is also availalble just down the road. It's about 11k out of Narooma. Such a lovely place!
