Poverty point camp ground, Easter....info needed

Postby Dave-Yakka » Mon Mar 07, 2011 10:44 am

I'm heading to Poverty point camp ground for 5 days over easter.
Anyone camped here before? is it good/bad etc....
How big is the camping area, how bad are the mozzies/midgee's etc...
Can a tinny be launched from the campsites, or is it all bollarded up?

any info would be great, i have been on the DERM website, but now much info.

Cheers -Dave

Yes I have been there and the midges are HELL....so go prepared.

Yes you can launch a tinny by hand from there on the high tide which would be the best....lots of mud on the low tide. No bollards last time I was there.....rather rough track in though....it never gets any better.

Not a big camping area and also not hugely popular so get in early and you should be right. No water, no amenities and no rubbish collection or ice man calling....poverty point by name and poverty point by nature.

The part that really gets to me is that they charge the same amount of money for camping there as they do at Inskip. I reckon it should be free.

We camped there a while ago, there was drop toilets. You can have a fire, but can not collect fire wood. I don't remember seeing anywhere to put a tinnie in. You have to book a spot, but that doesn't guarantee you the spot you booked, when we got there out booked spot was taken, the people that were in it said there booked spot was taken and the ranger told them to camp whereever, which was ok, we ended up sharing the fire and had a few drinks with them.

overall i didn't like it that much, was ok, but i've camped at better places. Basicly there's much to do there and no view, you're in the middle of the bush.

Some people probably really like it, so who knows.

Here's my review i did..

Nope....no toilets at this PP....and no allocated camping sites and no bollards and yes you could drop the tinny in.

my cruiser is in need of a g/box rebuild, so 4wding for me.
also too many bills, might get home to no water and power if we go :***

Also the friends we are going with, thier 4wd has a busted CV and has to get one specially made (long story)

so a few day trips are planed.

Oh Dave....that is disappointing for all of you. Hope some good little fairy pops in during the night and fixes it all up for you.

At the very least.....enjoy your day trips.
