Yes, I have done the Grand Canyon walk about 20 yrs ago! it was freezing cold so I was wearing jeans.... big mistake! the walk out/up was very uncomfortable
If you want to check out places a bit off the tourist trail look around my backyard in Lawson/Hazelbrook/Woodford. there are some nice small waterfalls like Terrace/Cataract/Victor Falls on the Southern side of the highway between Lawson & Hazelbrook, accessable by parking along Baths Rd & walking, or if you have a 4wd or car with high clearance you can go down Terrace falls rd from Hazelbrook station...
And on the Northern side there is Horseshoe Falls/Mabel Falls at Hazelbrook, Empire Pass/St Michael's Falls/Frederica Falls/Dante's Glen at Lawson.
These waterfalls are marked on normal maps of the area & I know them all very well having lived in the mountains most of my adult life & explored & swam in any pool of water deep enough .... but be aware in Summer you may find me skinny dipping in the creek at these falls
Also again if you have a 4wd/high clearance you can check out Murphys Glen at Woodford, you can camp there, no showers/water & only 1 small long drop toilet
I took these photos when I visited there a couple of years ago... road is pretty rough though!
