Big4 to Relax No Dogs Policy

Postby GypsyLady » Sat Mar 05, 2011 11:29 pm

BIG4 has decided to take the step of allowing its member parks the option of accepting dogs. The policy change will take effect as of 1 July 2011.

Excellant result......Now all the Councils should take note ...and relax their ruling....
Lets hope Campers support the BIG 4 chain ...(maybe blacklist the non-performers until they come into line) :+ :+ :+

I doubt very much that we'll see too many parks take up the option Rosco......think most of them like their 'exclusive' status.

The mere mention of 'pet friendly' sends some people into a real tail spin...oops pardon the pun.

I think its getting the way that to let 'Pets on site'...almost makes THEM an exclusive nowdays Gypsy....
1st thing the dam councils do is slap up a 'no Pets ' sign...... :(

Council CPs yes, but there are more and more privately run Pet Friendly CPs these days than there ever was in the past. There are certain high tourist places where the numbers are limited....Gold Coast for example.

As a dog owner who takes his two small dogs everywhere with us, I don't know really, how to respond to this.
I know if my dogs are not welcome, I have no wish to pay money to stay at such places.
Remember, they must stay on a lead at all times, waste must be picked up after them, and they do not stay in on site vans or chalets, but in our own camper, so really, what is/was the problem ?
In fact I'd love to find a NO KIDS PARK, cause from my view point, kids create far more distress to many campers, when allowed to run amuck by their parents, then do dogs on leads.
Will we be tempted to visit and stay at such a Park ? Hard to say, definately not during PEAK periods that's for sure, but we could be tempted.
The last time I stayed in such a Park, the kids played chasey between campers/caravans and their parents sat quietly knocking back the cans, never uttered a word. No thanks, never again.

You Grumpy old buggers....I for one love the sound of kids playing (just like we did when we were their age...Oh...Had you forgotten that !!!!)....Real healthy 'family' sound,,,,

Dogs on the other hand, as much as we love them...cannot be compared with Children having fun.

I'm not against Parks not allowing Pets (I say 'pets'...because that often means,cats,..even Birds')....Just don't expect to see us in the ''book-in que''......I think its great that BIG 4 have relaxed their rules...maybe not for the main reason...(like,,,times are tough...ha.)......But after doing surveys etc atleast they now acknowlede that often pets are the only companions that many older people have......

Good on them for atleast catching up to the,,,,,,,,,90's

:cheers :

We have a very well behaved Jack Russell pup (2yr old) we take everywhere, he comes with his own house. We won't camp where we can't take him. Mostly freepark. A friend who has a small parrot was travelling in Qld and stopped in at a park for the night. They charged $2 per night for the bird!!!! Dogs also $2 plus Bond. If your dog barked they came along and kicked you out and did not refund your bond !!!! Pet friendly so they say!!!
