Sh*tBox Rally 2011 - pics & story

Postby stevo. » Sat May 28, 2011 6:13 pm

A couple of members on our 4wd forum entered the Sh*tbox Rally 2011. It's an event organised by a fella that lost his parents to cancer in the aim of raising funds for the Cancer Council. Entrants have to buy a vehicle and prepare it for under $1000 and then complete the event. This is the second year and they started in Brisbane and went to Darwin.

Our forum members (Luke an Peter - Team Cable Tie Racing) entered, and actually live in the Darwin area, and drove their stretched Ford Taxi Limo from Darwin to Brisbane for the start, and have now just completed the event.

I went along to the start line at the Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane. Here are all my photos ....

Here is their team website page, it has the donations and team details..

They had a reporter from the NT that went along in the event and did a couple of stories on them. He went in the back seat for a couple of days but had to get out and get in with another team because he was beng force fed too much alcohol.

Here is his first report:

The whole rally event raised $603,969.88

The Cable Tie Team raised $6,694.16 , and that was mostly through our 4x4 forum, not bad i reckon.

at the end the cars are handed over to the organisers and auctioned, the Cable Tie Team bought their own car back (not sure how much) .. but also bought another teams car for $120 or something like that.
