Pine Islet Lighthouse

This lighthouse was constructed in 1885 on Pine Islet in the Percy Isles 120 klms ESE of Mackay. It was to mark Normanby Rock after the Eastern and Australian Company's steamship 'Normanby' en-route from Hong Kong to Brisbane, ripped her hull open on the then unknown and uncharted rock. In September 2002 the lighthouse was moved intact to its present site on the Mackay Harbour. Pine Islet Lighthouse was the last operational kerosene light in Australia.

St Helens Beach north of Mackay which is pretty ordinary but there was a reported sighting of a crocadilly at the boat ramp.

This pic was taken at low tide and the tide does seem to go out a long way up here.

Proserpine Sugar Mill which is right in the centre of the town....surprising. Proserpine is very tired looking little town, not much that I could see on offer to the tourist.

Thanks for the great pics and reports Gypsy. :+

We have seen our first snake this year already!!!! ::()

Glad it was way down near the dam paddock (which is the furthest from the house) and it was going across the neighbours front gate.....yukkkk.

We had a couple of warmer days here (low 20s) and I think that has bought them out.

They say we are looking like having a shocking spring/summer here as all the mice will come up from underground which will bring all the snakes out and the fire season is going to be quite bad also. Great!!! NOT.

Seaforth Beach north of Mackay is quite a nice beach complete with swimming enclosure.

Big council campground at Seaforth, not pet friendly.

Cape Hillsborough NP which was pretty ordinary but the beach was quite lovely.

Campground here too for anyone who does not travel/camp with their pet.

Had a chance to go and watch a sugar cane burnoff last night. This was a rare treat as it is seldom done anymore.

Here are pics of it.

PS Rosco......did not see any snakes at all......not one, much less the squillons you anticipated.
