G'day from View Bank

Postby Richard E1 » Fri Oct 21, 2011 12:16 pm

G'day Richard Ellender here ... Rick to my Mates and Dicky to my Uncouth Mates!

I went camping at Rubicon last weekend and think I've got the camping bug!

I'm based in View Bank; a great location and easy road links to all directions.

I have a missus and 2 kids .. 8 and 6 yrs

I'm looking initially to get a family tent for this Summer, at present I have only a 2 man dome tent. I want something with a couple of rooms plus annex, looking for quality and ease of use over price, doesn't have to be brand new .. so any tips on that front welcome.

Over the next few Months I'll be doing my research into entry level camper trailers to tow behind my Nissan Patrol so have also joined myswag.org forum.

Look forward to discussing all things camping with you :)

Hi thanks for those links, that's a great kick start for me!

I'm leaning towards the oztrail 12 x 15 cabin
http://www.oztrail.com.au/WebPage.gtl?P ... roup=CABIN
will search the forums first before I ask for advice :)

I would like to buy a family tent now and use for at least one year, then I will buy camper trailer and sell the tent.

Check out this site as they have some really good specials on at the moment.....

You can get the tent you are looking at plus a sunroom for only $1099. Which I thought was fantastic.

But most of their tents are on special so if you have a store near you you may be able to pick up a bargain....

Think of all the other camping "stuff" you could buy with the remaining $400 you saved......and you got a sunroom to boot..... :cheers

I love canvas tents......well worth their weight and hassle.

Yes, you found me :)
Now I have a question regarding setting up .. as I will be the sole adult on occasions; how feasable is it to set up the oztrail 12x15 by myself?
If it's too hard maybe I would be better off with the Oztrail Sportiva Homestead Family Dome Tent?
What do you think?

We had this Oztrail Oddessy tent and there would be no way one person could put it up on their own as you need someone inside to lift it while the other person bends and clicks the poles in.....

Maybe a quick erect tent might be the way to go depending on your budget.....

There was another thread on here lately where Brad M had bought a smaller one and posted a review which may help

http://camping.com.au/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=6366&sid=fd1f86257fe9eb6544b4d64527b00199

Maybe one like this would be easy for one person to put up..... also you will all get a chuckle or ten watching this dude put up this tent!!!!!!.....He doesn't sound or look like he has put many tents up but acts like he is doing a professional review......This clip made me laugh quite a bit. If he can do it on his own I'm pretty darn sure that ANYONE can do it!!!! :--?
