Thankfully it was a quite Xmas for us too...just like it is suppose to be.The usual downer:only a phone call to our parents, but that´s all that is possible.

The Christmas Spirit
If you ask 10 people what the Christmas spirit is, you'll probably get 7 to 8 different answers. Going beyond those different answers, there is something that makes people more selfless, more friendly, more kind, and generally much nicer people at Christmas.
Growing up in the 1950's and 60's, that something, I'll call it the Christmas spirit, was much more prevalent back then than it is today, Wow!, it was like the whole world transformed! People were happier and had more hope. They were more helpful. People smiled and said hello to everyone when they met on the streets. Once Christmas Day was over, people went back to their old selves. The transformation was beyond anything that can be explained, except that there is a true Christmas spirit that is much bigger than anything people could bring about, that comes out at Christmas time.
Sadly, it seems that the Christmas spirit that brought about that transformation back then isn't as prevalent today. Perhaps commercialism and people becoming more self-oriented has made it so the invisible, but real, spirit that visited earth back in those days, just doesn't visit us in the way it used to.

Sorry Gypsy & Soren.....When I read comments like.....

Thankfully it was a quite Xmas for us too...just like it is suppose to be.The usual downer

I can't help thinking ''How Sad''......What has our generation done to this world....Where has all the Spirit & attitude gone ....And....After what we have taken....What are we leaving for our Children

Hope you guys have a happier time at New Years.....

Cheers :cheers

Of course it was quiet !! we were doing what we were supposed to do,be with family, visit friends we haven`t had a chance to see, pretty miserable if you had to spend xmas day on the computer..after the robbery and trashing off my home the week before i relished in being with my brothers and sisters neices and nephews as well as great N &N, we ate, we drank, we laughed, played cricket,we picniced at the beach boxing day with the left overs, hired a tinnie to take the kids fishing and already planning a biggie next year where the whole 60 plus of us will camp on my brothers five acres next year..That`s the christmas spirit.
The Lord is my shepard,i shall not want......only sometimes.

Yep, well I must be pretty miserable then.

So very sorry to hear of the robbery and trashing of your home PJ....that has to be horrible for anyone to endure......................

However, not all of us have brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews to eat, drink, laugh, picnic and play cricket with and I can tell you there is very little in the way of xmas spirit for many, many people at this time of year.

You are definitely one of the lucky ones in that regard; I personally find xmas time a very depressing time of year and the sooner it is past, the better for me.

The weather over xmas here was just divine Ann, very different to what we normally expect at that time of year.

One of nine.....wow....that is a decent size family Ann and not all large families get along which is a bit disappointing too but the upside is less xmas pressies that you have to buy.

I can really understand how you feel about the cricket on TV......not that I have a problem with it here (TV is seldom on at this time of year) but I have had in times past.

August is a good time to visit Qld.....actually anytime is a good time to visit Qld.....lol. Where is Qld do you plan to visit or is it an all over Qld trip??

If I can help any with info, please let me know Ann.

Well,Rosco,we have to clarify something here...our Christmas looks a different than your:here it is cold and the same goes for Germany (even though it isn´t THAT cold),so we tend to "hide" inside,"getting cozy around the fireplace" kind of thing.I OZ,it´s warm/HOT,so Christmas is the time of the great get-together,having fun in the back yard, splashing in the pool etc...if we had it that warm, our agenda would look a little different I guess. So,for us it´s more of a "besinnliche Zeit"a time of reflection and therefor a calm time (specially appreciated after all that hast in the time before Xmas to get presents etc).

Cheers Gernod

We were camping. :D

I have no family whatsoever in Australia apart from my daughter. I used to go to an 'orphans xmas' lunch in Canberra, but I am just not much into christmas. I reckon that is because my own family used to always get stressed around christmas and I have memories of my parents fighting and spoiling the mood for everyone!

So I celebrated christmas in a very low-key way. By having pancakes for brunch and then going down to the beach. My daughter had decorated the trees with baubles and solar fairy lights. And hung a plastic bag with some goodies for Santa and the reindeer in a tree too.

Only, I spoiled the Santa thing for her because it is simply impossible to hide a massive big present in a tiny car packed for a week's camping with a child and a dog!!! She was nearly onto it anyway.

Most of our afternoon was spent with me reading a book in the tent and my daughter playing happily with her new toys in the annex. Bliss!
