Half way between Canberra and Sunshine Coast

Postby Di I » Tue Jul 17, 2012 12:30 am

Hi

We are two families meeting for a week's camping with CT. 1 family travelling down from Sunshine Coast, and us up from Canberra, wanting to meet somewhere roughly half way. Both families have 3 kids each ranging from ages of 8 months to 7 years....1 family has a 4wd, the other a car so off road is out of the question.

We are looking for an idyllic, quiet, away from hustle and bustle, close and easy access to safe swimming areas ( prefer no surf with youngens), fishing available, camp site....reasonable and CLEAN amenities....powered site...but we are both pretty much self sufficient.

NO BIG 4 or the likes, we prefer nature parks, uncrowded, uncommercialised! Back to nature etc.

Looking at 7 nights in earlyOctober.

Our friends have stayed at Red Rock before and are happy to go back there...any other ideas to look at?

TIA

:hello: Di and welcome to the forum.

We love Forster. Like anywhere on the north coast at that time of the year it's going to get really crazy busy.

We stayed at the Lakeside Resort during Easter '11 & it was really lovely. We had a waterfront site which was pretty quite and the kids(16 & 14) could wade out quite a long way in the lake before it got over their thighs, so it would be great for little kids. Also had a lot of kids at this park and they were all well behaved. It is a little way out of town which is what we prefer and the amenities are all new. The only downside was that they needed more amenities during the busy season, but we were in no rush so it didn't really bother us that much. We had friends from Forster (as we used to live there) come out and have a bbq dinner with us and they also loved it.

You could also try Booti Booti, Pacific Palms, Redhead Beach, Blueys Beach, they are all around Forster/Tuncurry. Friends of ours stayed at Booti Booti and enjoyed it but it was also really busy in school holidays. Maybe also try Tea Gardens & Nelson's Bay. Anywhere on Wallis Lake (Forster) will have no waves and be good for the little kids.

Hope this helps a little. If I think of any others I will re-post

Look forward to reading a report on where you decide to go.

Thanks for your ideas!

Should have mentioned it in my original post...Forster not an option for a week away! Our parents live there, so we frequent Forster regularly...beautiful spot, though we want to go somewhere different for a change...have been visiting Forster for over 20 years ( and even got married and the kids Christened at the Green Cathedral at Booti Booti!).

You could have not suggested a more perfect place, but not on this occasion!

We are happy to stop over in Forster on our way through if need be though!

Any more ideas?

Cheers

Haha sorry Di !!!!

The Green Cathederal is just magnificent. Such a beautiful place.

Sorry I couldn't help you.....

What about Wauchope or Lake Cathie....they are both not far from Port MacQuarie....

We drove through Lenox head on our last road trip, we didnt stay there but it looks like a great spot, the camp ground is opposite the beach so there is waves there, shops are nearby etc, its definitely on our list of places we want to stay at.
