Hi from a Camping Newbie

Postby JM1375 » Wed Apr 04, 2007 9:00 am

Hi All,

I was most intrigued to find this forum while net surfing yesterday, as DH and I have just made the decision to get into camping.

Well, acutally it was my idea - which had DH in stitches until he realised that I was serious because I think the last time I went camping I might have been about 12yrs old.

We've purchased a tent, stove, chairs, table, airbeds, etc, and we've booked a campsite at Ballina for four nights in three weeks time. I'm really looking forward to getting away for a few days.

Anyway, despite the fact that mummeee74 seems to have asked most of the questions that I was going to ask, I am sure to have a few so I'm looking forward to a few tips from some experienced campers.

Cheers,
Jodie

welcome Jodie

I'm only new here myself and am finding it a great site where the people are friendly, funny, and the main thing - honest with their experiences.

The advice is better than a sales persons  I reckon

goodluck with your camping trip, hope the weather is awesome :armsup

Alma

We camped in Ballina on our kombi trip from Melbourne to the Gold Coast in 2002. Got there from Sydney at 10pm and drove out on to the rocks just passed Ballina popped the top and slept the night. Never got to see the sights there, met up with a friend at Mcdonalds for breakfast and just kept going.

Let me know if you find our spare oil, I think we left it behind.

Thanks for the welcome, all.

We have decided to stay at the Ballina Headlands Leisure Park. Basically, it has "resort-type" facilities, and I thought that might ease the transition into camping for me and the family. (It's also only an hour from home in case we get bad weather or some other problem which sends us packing....)

That having been said, DH is now discussing purchasing a 4WD and heading to Fraser later in the year!!! I must say, I'm not

I will let you all know how it goes....

Cheers, Jodie.

So many places to go to and so little time to do them

Welcome!
Camping.com.au isnt the quickest or biggest camping site in australia. But its certainly up there with the best when you realise how knowledgeble a lot of these guys are - and super keen to help!

HAHA it'll be - just a fourby to make getting away easier, then it be some quick mods to that (drawer system dual batt etc) then it'll be the CT :P

Ive just got my 4by. Already put the dual battery system in (but removable via anderson plugs), and was down at All Terrain 4x4 today pricing up a suspension lift :P ($1300 fitted for a FIRM toughdog / lovell 2" lift kit)

Yeah the CT is probably only 18 months away now LOL. Though some how i think thats gunna be put on hold - i keep getting elbowed in the ribs about getting married :(

The only reason why we haven't given our fourbie a lift, bull bar and other assorted accoutrements is money, and there's no room in it with all the kids :***
