I am admin at another forum where we have just successfully evaded the the spammers at least for the time being. The way we did it may not be appropriate for here but if Admin here want to know how we are doing it let me know.

I won't post it then they will know.

So ner ner spammers not telling you.

At work our IT manager stated not long ago that we get 50,000 spam per day (about 99% is intercepted) compared to 12,000 legit emails (for 1000 employees)

The stupid thing is alot of it just doesn't make sense, just gibberish.

You can usually tell the spammers so I don't even bother looking at the thread.

My ISP (iPrimus) needs to shift it's butt tho' ... I still get about 10 spam emails per day. I've found if I don't open them my spam rate goes down. Please explain?

Thats because when you open them it sends a code back to say your email is active, hence make you a target. Good eh.

To be honest there is not a lot your ISP can do about it.

I sorta guessed that but being 'digitally incompetent' I just went with the odds and stopped opening the emails.

At $60/ month I fel the ISP needs to get on top of it's game.

For now, I shall just refrain from opening spam related emails.

When I was with Iprimus my spam emails got up to about 60 per day... At that point I decided to stop using Outlook for mail and just stuck with yahoo and now have gmail too. Most of the spam in them gets diverted and you don't have to look at it, and the few that get into your inbox you just click on spam and they are gone.

And I disagree that Iprimus can do nothing about it, they can make their spam filters free instead of charging an extra $10 a month for it. That's what they used to do anyway, so most people won't use it, and if most people aren't using it it's gonna be less effective anyway. Because it is default in yahoo for example everyone uses it and more spam is deleted.

The downside is of course that you lose the odd genuine mail in the system and that sucks, but for me it's better than having the rest of the spam in your inbox to start with.

It's bloody anoying. But the tricksters seem to be ahead of the game. I know people who have just given away using computers because of spam, spy ware etc. :x

We don't get any spam emails, as we use a program called Mailwasher that you can delete them without clicking on them or have them enter your mail program, and you can also bounce them back...don't think they like that :+

I got ticked off when I was told I could have this service at a charge ... damn rude really ... but I guess like all other organisations they're out to make money.

This link is to a recording of a guy in america who got back at a telemarketer. It comes as perhaps with a M rating, to avoid offending anyone.

If you can only do this to spammers.

SPAM

Postby Activity_Dept » Sun May 20, 2007 1:45 pm

Yes I’m deleting about 60 plus per day. If I make it harder for them it deters new members from joining. Dammed id you do dammed if you don't. :-bang

But I have it now so it is 180 seconds between posts so if they want to play they better be prepared to pay at least in their time spend doing it. :booty

Will try to get a little harder on them.

Thanks for letting me know though.
