First trip in the camper

We had a shake down trip to Deep Creek (South of Adelaide) in the new (to us) Coromal Silhouette 450, with some friends. The weather was great, apart from the night when a howling wind developed out of nowhere. The camper performed well and towed easily, although you could certainly notice the weight going up steep tracks in Deep Creek where the little Rover tdi was working hard in low gears to maintain forward motion. On the flat or rolling hills it is fine, and the camper slips through the air very nicely and tracks steadily. It is also easy to reverse. The HR weight transfer hitch was excellent (it would have been very bouncy without it), and the brakes worked well enough. The interior of the camper is huge – big enough for dancing – and for 2 - 3 people to work in the kitchen area. I also love the boot – a simple idea but a good one. The only negative is the lockable plugs that cover the water and windup holes at the back of the camper. They are very fiddly and don’t seem to have any kind of logic. Undoing them takes a lot of twisting, swearing and pulling.

The other pluses of the camper are that it takes about 10 - 12 minutes to erect, and unlike our old ACT Cruiser you can step straight into it without having to clear the floor of eskis, food boxes, bags of clothing etc and without having to fold up sink/stove units. So much better than our old camper in that regard, as the amount of storage space, the lighting, bed size and comfort, the bench space, lighting, a fridge that gets cold, a door that works etc etc.

So I guess you can say that it has been a success so far. We are looking forward to a longer trip.
